What is a Key Performance Indicator (KPI)?

A Key Performance Indicator (KPI) is a measurable value used to determine how effectively we are providing operationally excellent services by meeting key objectives. The intention of a KPI is to go beyond simply collecting data and instead frames the information within the context of a goal in order to identify if there is room for improvement. The measures must offer actionable data that easily answers why we are measuring the indicator and must reflect important components of service central to the vision of the Village. The development of a KPI system was a direct result of the Strategic Plan’s Operational Excellence project.

Each of the Village’s operating departments has defined a set of KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of services provided, both externally and internally, so that we may continue to strive toward achieving operational excellence.
